Common Sulphur Project Qatar

The Common Sulphur Project (CSP) is critical to several of Qatar’s major energy projects and is being operated by Qatargas as part of the overall Ras Laffan port expansion venture that includes a six berth LNG export facility.

The $700 million Common Sulphur Project is an environmentally sound, world class facility owned by, and critical to, the successful operation of Qatargas and RasGas LNG ventures, including Dolphin Energy, Qatar Petroleum and the new Barzan and Pearl GTL plants in the Ras Laffan Industrial City (RLIC) area.  CSP is designed to receive up to 12,000 tons/day of liquefied sulphur via the pipelines, store the molten sulphur in two on-site tanks before it is dried and converted to granules, whereupon it is stored in a purpose designed facility prior to export and shipment to customers worldwide. There are two parallel pipelines, each 17.5 km long which accommodate tie in points for current and future sulphur producers within RLIC.

The main project facilities are being designed and constructed by URS, formerly Washington Group International (WGI) Middle East.

Kentech Qatar was originally awarded the full electrical & instrumentation scope of works by URS. Part of Kentech’s scope also included the installation of a new Distributed Control System (DCS) and Emergency Shutdown System (ESD).   Following initial contract award our scope expanded to provide mechanical pre-commissioning and maintenance, civil excavations for cable routing, concrete duct bank installation for fiber optic cabling, concrete pull box installation, asphalting, structural, QA/QC, safety management and commissioning services.  Our team also provided operations support directly to Qatargas.

Kentech executed over 1.18 million manhours without a lost time incident.
