The Al-Zour NRP will be one of the largest oil-refining plants in the world, with refining output capacity of 615,000 barrels per day. The NRP will use a combination of conventional and proprietary licensed hydro-processing technologies to convert light and heavy crudes into low sulphur fuel oil (LSFO) and lighter products. The Al Zour NRP and the Clean Fuels Project are the two biggest projects implemented as part of KNPC’s 2030 strategy.
Key Process Units, Utilities & Infrastructure – Packages 2 & 3
The FDH JV secured two EPC contracts in October 2015. The contract involved the development of key process units, utilities and infrastructure for the refinery project included in phases two and three.
Kentech’s scope of work for this package was to execute the installation of Enterprise, Integration & Communication Systems (EICS) and the Instrument, Control & Safety Systems (ICSS) equipment in the 13 new buildings on the NRP & 5 external existing facilities.
Our whole team approach to collaboration and communication helped to make this project a success. Logistical challenges were addressed at weekly progress meetings and day to day coordination onsite between the project team, client and other contractors. We quickly became a trusted partner to our client who relied on the Kentech team to execute additional works during the course of the project to help it to reach successful completion in the best time at the best cost. We subsequently supplied a pre-commissioning engineer to integrate with the client’s turnover team until successful completion of commissioning in October 2020.
Our team delivered our contracted work scopes, executing 370,000 manhours with 281 peak manning on site.
Processing Units – Package 1
Técnicas Reunidas was responsible for engineering, supply, construction and commissioning of the processing units.
Kentech’s main scope of work on this package saw our team glanding and terminating cables in the substation and clearing punch items in FAR buildings. Although Técnicas Reunidas was a new client for Kentech in Kuwait, we quickly proved our reputation for reliability on this project and were approached by the client to step in and undertake some project optimization/intervention works when another contractor on the project was underperforming.
Our team have delivered over 1.1 million safe manhours on this contract with peak manpower on site at 260. Individual team members were awarded a number of HSE accolades during the course of the work and the whole team was awarded HSE performer of the month for August 2019.
