Our HSSEQ ethos

We Are Family is our safety culture. We see everyone we work with as members of our family which encourages a culture of caring. We all look after each other, ensure we do not come to harm and stay safe, no matter what the circumstances. But more than this, it’s understanding that we wouldn’t be able to deliver our world-class results without the support of our own families. Our proactive, risk-based philosophy means we are focused on the right leading indicators to ensure we all go home safely to our families every day.

A culture of safety is a living, changing thing and we understand that if we want to foster a strong HSSEQ culture, we need to Zero In on what makes it tick. Our Zero In approach is about focusing the right resources on the right opportunities to create real change. The Zero In approach ensures trending leading indicator data is analysed and addressed in four main categories: risk management, quality, leadership and culture. We strive to investigate root causes, not only for incidents, but hazard identifications, unsafe acts and positive HSSEQ engagements. By Zeroing In on trending data we can target error precursors before they result in an incident.

We are committed to empowering our people to be exceptional leaders - the most critical outcome being everyone goes home safe every day, because, at Kentech, we are family.

Kentech Management System

Remaining agile is key when working on complicated projects in challenging environments. Our KMS allows us to deliver safe, quality results every time. Our steady commitment to continuous improvement of our management systems has resulted in an average TRIR of 0.151 since 2006, from more than 94 million work hours. We have spent many years honing our multi-lingual Integrated Management System (IMS), which consolidates all of our systems and processes into one framework. It is certified to international standards ISO 9001:2015 for quality, ISO 14001:2015 for environment and ISO 45001:2018 for health and safety.

We recently undertook a journey to revolutionize our IMS, streamlining the framework and adopting a more interactive approach to managing our business.  Based firmly on the eight management principles for performance improvement of ISO standard 9001, corporate High Level Directives (HLD’s) provide governance and an unwavering Kentech standard with which all procedures must align. This radical departure from the generic procedural method of controlling work processes gives each regional workforce the flexibility to create documentation specific to their project and legislative compliance needs.

How we manage risk

Risk is a commonly used word, but to our people on the job it is tangible. It has form and is often tactile – something they can see, feel and touch. With that in mind, Kentech is moving away from the traditional risk management approach, and developing a risk visualisation model. We have developed a common universal language and framework that is simple in its nature but effective in getting our people to think differently about risk.

The intent is to switch our people on to unsafe acts and conditions they face every day and then identify SafeGuards that are practical and effective in preventing and mitigating consequences. This combined with RESET; Kentech’s way of integrating human performance management to trigger a Pause-Rethink-Restart mentality when conditions or circumstances change, has reduced Kentech’s significant injury rate to well below its peers in the industry significantly; Closing the gap to zero through better choices.

Kentech utilises a robust Verification of Competency (VOC) process, which incorporates practical and theory assessment on current industry best practices. Developed by industry experienced Subject Matter Experts, the VOC is delivered by approved trainers with relevant and recent industry experience and qualifications.

"The Safety industry has evolved so much in the past decade. It’s not just about compliance anymore, it’s about understanding why people make the choices they make. Being a part of the movement to empower people to make better choices is such an exciting prospect to me. We all have choice – it’s the great unifier, and when we harness that momentum and realize the potential…there’s something so powerful in that."

Laura Osborne, HSE Manager - STS, Canada

"It feels amazing to work in such an engaging and encouraging environment where everyone’s opinion matters. It’s the little things you do that make a huge difference at the workplace and Kentech is all about it."

Vishnu Nair, Lead IMS Co-ordinator, Middle East
