Humans of Kentech: Do what you can and more

Shyness was something I’ve grappled with for most of my childhood, and it’s made navigating life somewhat challenging. Shyness is not a new concept and I can confidently say that everyone has experienced it at some point in their lives. What I’ve learned is that shyness is not my personality – it’s just an obstacle that stood in my way. Growing up, I had always sought to improve my communications and overcome my shyness which is when I started reading books and applied my knowledge of being self-aware and improving my self-image until I became highly involved in class and group discussions.

This was a pivotal turn in my life from being shy to confident because it opened many doors later in my life where I got to meet with movie stars and politicians and even got the opportunity to act in a fun 4-part series with some great actors and a fantastic crew. That was a great experience that I might write about some time too.

I worked in the hotel industry in the Intercontinental Hotel in Egypt and moved to Saudi Arabia as a Restaurant Manager, then found a knack for Real Estate in Dubai followed by Portugal. During my time away from home in Portugal, I had an urge to go back to my wife and three children in Egypt whom I missed dearly, and I can safely say, it was the best decision I made. It’s true what they say, there’s no place like home.

It was when I came back home, that I joined Kentech. I had an interview with Brendon Treanor and Bryan Boland – they were looking for a Driver who was fluent in English and could also assist with other tasks. Speaking with them, I was sure that this is the kind of company culture I’d like to work with. Change in job is scary for most of us… but every job is of value, regardless of what we’re doing. It’s what you give and what you get out of your work – that’s important. Taking up this job was a humbling experience, but I believe we should take what we’re being offered and work our way up. I always do more than I’m assigned and go the extra mile. Soon, I carved my path up to be a Transport Coordinator and currently, a Transport & Security Coordinator responsible for 30 drivers in Kentech Egypt. Your job title doesn’t define who you are, but what you do with it is what defines you and builds character.

My team starts working as early as 5 A.M. and thus, my day starts with checking on them and their needs, making sure they’re safe – they know what to do and where to go. It can get tricky to drive considering the conditions of the routes here, in addition to the occasional heavy rains. I constantly need to screen and review that my team is safe as their safety is my priority.

My advice to any new joiner is to do what’s assigned to you but remember to put in extra effort and help wherever you can. This is a great company where you’ll never feel like a stranger, people genuinely care for your personal and professional growth. Don’t look for titles, work hard, work smart and you’ll receive what you deserve when you show what you’ve got to offer. No matter what life gives you, make what you can with it. Be humble, be flexible and be willing to do more than required.
